Kent’s Finest Indian Restaurant Launches Bold New A la Carte Menu

The British Curry Award winning Shampan at the Spinning Wheel in Westerham, Kent, has launched an exciting and innovative new A la Carte Menu.

With the kitchen headed up by Executive Chef Sadek Miah, the exciting new menu further bolsters the Shampan restaurant group’s large and modern flagship outlet, often referred to as “Shampan 4”. The group also has sites in Bromley and Welling.

Already a highly popular destination haunt for diners across the region, the restaurant’s succinct and attractive sounding menu utilises British ingredients, some even sourced locally from the “Garden of England” as Kent is so affectionately known, throughout the starters and mains. Of the many standout items from the former, are Chilled Raw Mango & Tomato Broth, assorted Tomato & Fennel Salad; Griddle Seared King Scallops, Sautéed Peas, Truffle Cauliflower Puree; Chargrilled Free Range Chicken with Cracked Fennel & Cardamom; and Shampan’s Special Duo of Kentish Lamb Chops, Minced Lamb Gilafi.

Mains take a similarly creative approach, most of which are presented in a plated style and are judiciously spiced for a balanced flavour. Take your pick from an array of elevated dishes including, Grilled Red Mullet with Chillies, Bengali Aubergine & Tomato Broth; Punjabi red Spiced Chicken with Sautéed Vegetables, Pilau Rice; Slow Braised Leg of Kentish Lamb ‘Salli’ with Straw Potatoes, Biryani Rice; South Indian Style Mey Valley Beef with Carrot, Beans & Coconut; and Clove Smoked Saddle of Venison with Jodhpuri Spices, Crisp Okra.

There are also a well-chosen selection of “Traditional Dishes” and tempting Biryanis. Unmissable sides feature the likes of Paneer with Cumin & Garlic; and Keema Matar – Lamb Mince & Green Pea.

Split into distinct bar, lounge and dining areas, Shampan at the Spinning Wheel offers the feel of a relaxing retreat, where you can unwind in a manner suited to your individual tastes – whether you desire a romantic meal or just a pleasurable and fun time with family and friends.

A large and sturdy marble-topped, standalone bar serving a bevy of thirst quenching drinks, including a wide range of classic and signature cocktails, sits handsomely opposite a spacious lounge area replete with brown hues and well-placed leather and velvet furnishings punctuated by art deco style lamps.

Entering the main dining areas with their starched white tablecloths, to the right is the Tamarind Room. Perfect for those intimate moments, with a cool and inviting feel, the room presents well-spaced out tables with muted fawn fabrics, lattice wood chairs along with underlit, fabric backed, leather banquettes. The walls here are strategically inset with ceramics.

The Caraway Room, airy and bright, and which looks out to the front of the restaurant and its garden area, offers an equally comforting environment, repeating much of the brown house colours. In contrast, Shampan’s private function space, the Saffron Room, offers a rich and luxurious setting and with its own bar, provides the perfect backdrop for all kinds of private events including, stunning wedding arrangements and corporate hire facilities.

It’s not all about the dining at Shampan though as the picturesque location alone gets everyone talking. Perched on the outskirts of the historic market town of Westerham, not far from Biggin Hill airport, the restaurant, with its ample sized car park, is memorably defined by and eye-catching, miniature thatched cottage in its grounds, which records show, may have been the site of an old 17th century Christian mission.

Whether it’s a relaxing lunch during the daytime, or a lovely dinner in the evening – all enhanced by our newly launched menu, Shampan at the Spinning Wheel guarantees an unrivalled and enjoyable dining experience.

Shampan at the Spinning Wheel is at Grays Road, Westerham, Kent, TN16 2HX.

  3. Hi Murray,
Thanks for following our sketch blog, moveablepaintbox. Turns out you won the prize for Monday. As a way to start out 2015 on our blog with a great big thanks to our readers, Margaret and I plan to make a sketch a day to post and send to a new blog follower (which is how you won) of an object that you prize. It can be anything you like, just send me the jpeg and maybe a few words about it to our work email: along with a mailing address where the sketch can be sent to you. That’s it. I will sketch it, post it on Monday (assuming that you are game and send me a photo) and then I’ll mail it to you with our thanks.

  4. Thanks for the follow! I will definitely check your blog when I make a trip to London – am a big coffee drinker -:)
